9/19/09 Sykesville Raiders D2 Centennial, Coach Neil Jones
The Raiders D2 team made its assistant coach, Tom "PopPop" Jones, proud as they upset the undefeated Silver Spring Saints, 30-0, on his 60th birthday.
It was a team effort as the defense held their opponents from scoring for the third week in a row, while the offense skillfully controlled the ball.
Highlights include a quarterback keeper for Brennan Maher, giving him his first touchdown of the season; a long punt return for a touchdown by Bryson Shaw; two touchdowns for Harrison Trostle and six points kicked by Zach Owings.
Other big contributors were wing back Noah Rohrer and punter Joel Eckles.
Quarterback sacks by Tristan Fallin, Chris Maurantonio and Brandon Cooper frustrated the Saints' offense while Garrett Cooper put a stop to their running game.
Nick Jones played his part as he applied the pressure on a fourth down almost intercepting a long pass.
