[Raiders Centennial] game write up for Maplewood

demo

The Raiders team returned from a road trip to Bethesda a little muddy but victorious beating Maplewood 26-0.  Roberto Ortiz, Joel Eckles and Noah Rohrer came up with big interceptions while Nathan Haerbig and Lucas Asher caused havoc in the Maplewood backfield throughout the game.  Multi-talented Zach Owings was a contributor for both the offense and defense by making several tackles, gaining crucial yards at fullback and kicking an extra point.  Adding numbers to the scoreboard were Bryson Shaw with three touchdowns and Brennan Maher with a quarterback keeper dodging several tackles to find the end zone.  The Raiders team continues to impress extending their winning streak of 6 wins and only one loss.  Raiders Rock !!

Football Newsdemo

In a hard fought game, the Sykesville Raiders team held on for a 8-6 victory over the North Carroll Panthers to make it to the MMYFCL Super Bowl.  Harrison Trostle made strong runs behind the blocking of Ryan Armstrong and Blaine Roach.  Quarterback Brennan Maher exhibited great poise and control despite the intense pressure of the North Carroll defense.  Maher scored the only touchdown but it was Zach Owings' tremendous kick for extra points that put the Raiders on top.  Crucial tackles by Garrett Cooper held the Panthers out of the end zone while the duo of Noah Rohrer and Bryson Shaw put a stop to their running game.  Neither team wanted to sacrifice even one yard leading to multiple team tackles where Safety Nick Jones was often found at the bottom of the pile.  Finally, it was an awesome punt by Joel Eckles late in the fourth quarter that pinned North Carroll so deep in Raider territory they had nowhere to go and dashed any hopes of a Panther comeback.

TeamSnap message from Dina Jones of the team Raiders Centennial:

The Raiders team made their assistant coach, Tom "PopPop" Jones proud as they upset the undefeated Silver Spring Saints 30-0 on his 60th birthday!  It was a team effort as the defense held their opponents from scoring for the third week a row while the offense skillfully controlled the ball.
Highlights include a quarterback keeper for Brennan Maher giving him his first touchdown of the season, a long punt return for a touchdown by Bryson Shaw, two more touchdowns for Harrison Trostle and six points kicked by Zach Owings.  Other big contibutors were wingback Noah Rohrer and punter Joel Eckles.
Quarterback sacks by Tristan Fallin, Chris Maurantonio and Brandon Cooper frustrated the Saints offense while Garrett Cooper put a stop to their running game.  Nick Jones played his part as he applied the pressure on a fourth down almost intercepting a long pass.  Raiders Rock !!
